Prospective and existing members may find this simple guide useful in understanding how to maximise the benefits of being a SYC member.

• Parking - The Club is allocated parking passes for members who wish to park on the Outer (east) Pier. A parking permit and key can be obtained by applying to the Secretary; ideally these should be applied for when the subscriptions are due as the number of passess is limited. Space is limited so all holders are requested to park sensibly, normally in a "Herring Bone" pattern where appropriate. At the weekends and on special events the gate onto the pier is locked and is opened by members who are allocated a key for a nominal deposit.
• Access to Marina Pontoons - An electronic key is issued to berth holders by the Harbour Master. To access electricity on the pontoons contact the Port Control watch keeper at the end of the West Pier.
• Access to the Outer Harbour - In the winter months (approximately 1st Oct to 30th March) a "boom" is placed across the Outer Harbour entrance. Access/egress to the harbour is through "Pen Hole", the bridge is operated on request by Port Control (VHF Ch 12).
• Craneage - A 4 tonne crane is operated by the Harbour Master's staff, this is available 24/7, ideally it should be prebooked.
• Hard standing/The Grid - Useful for bottom cleaning etc, is available in the Inner Harbour on the west side of the Vincent (middle) Pier, water and power are available. Book through Port Control in the Watch Keeper's control tower on the end of the West Pier. To access the power and water cabinet collect the key from Port Control.

NOTE 1: The tide gauge shows how much water is available, depending on the draught of your boat and the height of the tide you will need to calculate the "window" period either side of High Water to actually float onto the Hard Stand platform.

NOTE 2: The level Hard Stand (for non long keel boats) is to the north of the "The Grid". The "white" marks indicate the extent of the platform, the "red" marks indicate             the maximum length of boat.The outer end of the Grid is marked by a red "perch".

 NOTE 3: Be sure to "watch the boat down" and always tie a loose mast band to stop the boat falling outwards.

• Moorings - Berthing is allocated by the Harbour Master. Drying berths are required to provide (and remove) their own moorings and if necessary ground tackle. Fin keel boats require "legs" or ideally a "cradle". For a useful diagram on how to set up a cradle properly download the Mooring Diagram.
• To see whether the Club is open look for the Red Ensign on the Jackstaff on the Clubhouse.
