SKY Ocean Rescue

About SKY Ocean Rescue. We can help

We want to use our voice as Europe’s leading Entertainment Company and the potential of our reach to inspire people to take action to protect our planet. We choose big, global issues that matter to our customers and to inspire people to make a real difference.

We’re bringing to life our amazing ocean for millions of people across Europe and discussing the solutions. Through our news channels, Sky News in the UK and TG24 in Italy, we are raising awareness of how plastics and other pollution are affecting our oceans.  Through the campaign we're exploring the different ways people can help to make a difference and inspiring them to take action.

What are we doing?

We're doing our bit at Sky too, looking at everything we do that impacts the Oceans, from designing our products with less material, to ensuring our products are recycled. Removing all single-use plastics is a significant step we are looking to take. We’ve made a good start by removing all plastic water bottles, plastic cups, straws, and our cutlery is made from corn-starch. This is just the beginning of the changes - we are up for the challenge and will do more, including looking at our supply chain and the products we make.

Why are we doing it?

We saw the impact we can have through Sky Rainforest Rescue which helped to save one billion trees in Brazil- Now we want to take on another critical piece of the global puzzle for a healthy planet- Oceans.

We simply cannot afford for our oceans and seas to reach a critical tipping point. Our ocean makes up three-quarters of our planet. No matter where we live, we all depend on our ocean for the food we eat and the air we breathe.

Every minute, the equivalent of a rubbish truck load of plastic goes in to our oceans, it never decomposes and will remain there forever. If nothing changes, by 2050 all the plastic in the ocean could weigh more than all the fish. Plastic impacts on an entire ecosystem, marine life get caught up in it, eat it and live in it. It also has a direct impact on our health, acting as a sponge for toxins which can end up in our food.

Big issues for our ocean health such as this affect us all. They’re also something we all have a role to play in- if we all work together, we can help to protect our oceans. (Text from SKY Ocean Rescue site).
